Technical Committee
Within the framework of the TSI Food Safety Certification for individuals, the TSI Technical Committee is an important step to meet the requirements of the ISO 17024 standard. The Committee is responsible for ensuring that the required competencies and relevant specifications for the certification scheme are upheld and continue to evolve to meet the needs of the industry. The Committee includes representatives from Legal Authorities, Universities, International Experts and TSI, leveraging their expertise to discuss developments in the food sector, new scientific technologies and trends.

Legal Authorities

Shaikha Najla Ali Al Mualla
​
Shaikha Najla Ali Al Mualla is a highly accomplished professional with extensive experience in food safety, laboratory management, and environmental health. She previously served as the Director of the Central Laboratories Department at Sharjah City Municipality. She holds a B.Sc. in Food Technology and Nutrition, an M.Sc. in Environmental Science, and a Ph.D. in Food Biotechnology.

Her expertise spans food microbiology testing, laboratory operations, and academic engagement, including university lecturing and active participation in scientific conferences. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to the development and advancement of food safety and public health systems in the region.

Shaikha Najla has been a member of the Executive Committee for the College of Health Sciences since 2018, Chairman of the Advisory Council for Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) since 2021, and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee for Sharjah Healthy Cities since 2018. She also contributed as part of the federal team in 2015 to standardise laboratory procedures at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, supporting alignment with national and international best practices.

Dr. Tharwat Al-Bataineh

Dr. Tharwat Al-Bataineh is a highly accomplished Specialist Veterinary Doctor with extensive expertise in animal health, food safety, Halal practices, risk management, trade facilitation, and policy development. She has held a key role at the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment in the UAE, where she contributed to advancing national initiatives in health and safety.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tharwat has led strategic initiatives that uphold rigorous standards, supporting sustainable development, enhancing international trade compliance, and contributing to policy development aligned with global best practices.
International Experts

Dr. Joanne Taylor

BSc Psychology, PgCert Education and Research, PgCert HACCP, PhD Risk Management & Behaviour Change. Joanne is a travel lover, bookworm and self-professed crazy cat lady. She is also uniquely qualified and experienced in safety and quality culture. Joanne is a qualified psychologist, educator and researcher, with a PhD in risk management and behaviour change. Over the past 20 years she has taken a multi-disciplinary, innovative approach to a diverse range of academic, government and industry programs across multiple countries.
1. Academia: Joanne has led University MSc modules in Organisational Culture, International Business, Research Methods (Survey Design), Food Safety and HACCP, in the UK and UAE. She has authored a large number of peer-reviewed journal articles, including highly commended articles on organisational culture.
2. Government: Joanne has consulted to governments of the UK, Thailand, Brunei, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Qatar, as well as working on projects for the World Health Organisation / Food Agriculture Organisation (WHO/FAO). She has led large scale government programs to bring about improvements in safety and quality on a national scale.
3. Industry: Joanne has worked with a diverse range of companies as a trainer, auditor, researcher and culture assessor. She has led the development of innovative industry systems and tools that are used in over 85 countries around the world.

Dr. Jeremy Taylor
Dr. Jeremy is a practical education expert with a degree in sociology, a Masters in education and a PhD in behaviour change. After a successful career as a head chef, he has worked as a senior lecturer, auditor and government advisor in multiple countries.
Jeremy is one of the founding members of the Culture Excellence team and provides expert guidance into all stages of the program.

Professor Eunice Taylor
Prof. Eunice is a globally renowned food safety management expert, with a degree in food science and a PhD in training and education. She has run programs for governments and organisations around the world as well as United Nations (UN) projects. Eunice is one of the founding members of the Culture Excellence team and provides expert guidance into all stages of the program.
Universities

Dr. Kevin Kane
Kevin is a management expert with an MSc in organisation development and a PhD in risk management. He works as a senior lecturer for the University of Salford and advises multiple organisations and governments. Kevin is a key member of the Culture Excellence advisory team, providing expert guidance and running advanced training courses.

Muhannad Al-Alawi

Muhannad Al-Alawi is currently a faculty member at Zayed University in the College of Business and a researcher in the field of business innovation. He has professional experience in several fields prior higher education, including standards and regulations at the government sector, public education and professional training.
He is an international assessor accredited by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, an ISO certified international auditor for management systems, and a certified international trainer in the fields of management, occupational health and safety, first aid and food safety.
He led many successful projects, for example but not limited to; (1) Implementation of Food Safety Management System HACCP and ISO. (2) The automation of the regulations and standards system in Abu Dhabi (3) Led UAE committee for issuing five GCC standards (4) Raised up the organizational performance towards Occupational health and safety standard (5) Course leader of general undergraduate courses for one year (6) Provided more than thousand hours of vocational training (7) Leading three academic research projects (8) Volunteer workshops at many organizations including the public.

Dr. Lucy Semerjian

Dr. Semerjian (PhD Environmental Sciences, MSc Environmental Technology) is the Chairperson (2017-present) of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah (UoS), and a Faculty member in Environmental Science and Technology since 2015.
​
Before joining UoS, Dr. Semerjian has served in academic and research positions at the Environmental Engineering Research Center, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon (1994-2013). Her research interests include emerging contaminants in environmental systems, environmental pollution control, water quality, water/wastewater treatment and reuse, and human and environmental risk assessment.

Dr. Semerjian has numerous publications in reputable international journals and conference proceedings, and she is a member of International Water Association (UK) and Water Environment Federation (USA). She is the recipient of several academic and research awards and recognitions, including the Sharjah Islamic Bank Award for Distinguished Faculty Research (2018-2019).

Professor Abdelelah Mohamed Elhassan Abdelsalam
Professor Abdelelah Mohamed Elhassan Abdelsalam is the esteemed Director General of Green Gate Environmental Consultancy in the UAE. Renowned for his expertise in occupational health and safety, food health and safety, environmental health, public health, and environmental risk assessment, Professor Abdelsalam spearheads initiatives that enhance environmental sustainability and public well-being. His leadership is instrumental in driving comprehensive health and safety strategies that align with international standards and foster a healthier, safer environment for all.

Mrs. Chechamma Philip
Mrs. Chechamma Philip is a Food Safety Specialist with over 34 years of experience. She has served as a Food Safety Trainer and Auditor in the Middle East and was a Senior Lecturer in Mumbai, India. She holds a master's degree in Food Service Management and Dietetics.
Mrs. Philip has conducted training in line with various Middle Eastern food safety laws and through UK-based institutions like the Royal Society of Health. Her auditing skills are extensive, covering businesses in the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait, with a focus on Quick Service Restaurants in the UAE.
She was also part of a HACCP research project with Abu Dhabi's ADAFSA as the South Asian Researcher. Her other contributions include developing multilingual Food Safety Exams, auditing TSI-approved trainers, and surveying small catering businesses for Fujairah and Ajman health departments.

Dr. Anil Kumar Ravindra Nathan

Dr. Anil Kumar Ravindra Nathan is a senior Occupational Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (QHSE) professional and health & safety educator with more than two decades of experience across construction, industrial, logistics, oil and gas, healthcare, and service sectors in the UAE and internationally.
He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Principal Consultant of SOL Safety Group, leading safety consultancy, training, and regulatory compliance initiatives. With advanced qualifications in Occupational Health Management Systems (OHMS), industrial safety, fire and life safety, environmental management, and occupational health.
He is also a Certified Sustainability Ambassador (SPSC – Level Affiliate, Rank Green), supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through professional practice and safety education. Known for a clear, practical, and standards-driven approach, he continues to support organisations in achieving regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and sustainable safety culture improvement, with a professional focus on health and safety, asset protection, organisational resilience, and sustainable development.
